The Lake City and living like James Bond // Udaipur, India

The city of Udaipur is built around a series of lakes and featured some of the most decorated and beautifully designed buildings and streets we had seen. The City Palace (which is still partly occupied by the royal family) is one of the most ornate in India, and this opulent take on design is mirrored in the town.

Udaipur is also the site used in the James Bond film 'Octopussy' and many of the bars and restaurants in the town show this film. Although in the film Udaipur is supposed to be New Delhi, it is easy to spot which areas of the city were used (apparently the lake palace is a island occupied exclusively by blond women...) which made it that much more fun to watch. Plus afterwards, you can visit the spots of the film and feel like James Bond. As some hotels and restaurants show it daily, super fans could watch it every day (if you really wanted to).

Lakeside and Rooftop Views

Udaipur is at it's best at sunset. With the lakes lit up by lights as the sun goes down and the scenery surrounding the city being mountains and hills with distant temples atop, there's plenty to look at on Udaipurs many lakeside and rooftop restaurants.

Street Art

The ornate decoration of the City Palace is reflected in the town in the architecture and the street art. Below are some graffiti and murals that we spotted around town, with the top one representing Udaipur, Jaipur and Jaisalmer. Udaipur on the left with the white horse in front of the lake and mountains, Jaipur with the elephant in front of the wind palace and Jaisalmer with the camel in front of the fort. These 3 animals are the royal rides of each city, and of course their most famous sites/monuments.
